Cairns recommendation by Ian
This is a fantastic hotel, and situated right in the middle of everything. The restaurant at this hotel is fantastic and breakfast is amazing! There are 2 bars one inside the hotel and other is a swim up bar at the outside pool. The hotel has its own day trip booking desk with no extra charges put on top of your trip - they are just there to help you get the most out of your days. We booked a trip to Kuranda for the day and everything was arranged for us, all we had to do was be ready in the hotel lobby for 8am for a driver to come collect us for our day out. The hotel staff are so friendly, it was... read the full recommendation

Cairns recommendation by ralphjan
For seafood lovers in Cairns. There is a lovely "all you can eat" buffet restaurant on the Esplanade at Cairns called Charlie's. It is at the far end of the Esplanade in the Acacia Court Hotel away from the tourist restaurants near the beach. The food is simple but they provide prawns, mussels and oysters which are very, very, good. I had entree of oysters, then more oysters, another entree of prawns, more prawns, and they do a good desert as well. Cost is $28.95 a head. Ambience is lovely, tables overlooking the pool, then the... read the full recommendation

Cairns recommendation by travis
Since mid June the weather has been perfect one day and glorious the next. The city is also starting to pump in the evening at clubs like the Woolshed and Gilligans as travel bugs start to migrate to North Queensland. There are load of inner city hostels that make it the perfect destination for those who don't have transport and want to walk around.Best time of year to travel here is from June through to September when the weather turns nasty in the South part of the country and up here has blue sky days. Yes it rains a bucket load here (how else do you think we keep the... read the full recommendation

Goto Njoy, because like many people we absolutley Njoy'd our time there, the staff were fab and full of energy, and very helpful. The food and drink at the Zanzibar, which is at their sister hostel, was awesome, espically for backpackers like us on a budget! There are plenty of things to do, all we did was say what we wanted and the staff did all of the hard work, booking and... read the full recommendation

Cape Tribulation recommendation by kimberleyw13
I booked a three night trip to Cape Tribulation through Lets Trek. I stayed at a backpackers called the Cape Tribulation Beach House, I can.t recommend this hightly enough! Its a great little place, right on the beach and consists of either dorm style huts that sleep around 6 -8 or if you have a little more money really lovely twin/double beach huts. For the price I paid, I could.nt belive how luxurious these were. The resort has a pool, and bar area with meals served at breakfast, lunch and dinner. There is also a kitchen if you want to bring your own food.
I also took to... read the full recommendation

Cape Tribulation recommendation by julie
North Eastern Queensland, a breath taking place that deserves weeks or maybe even months of your time.
If you are backpacking, honeymooning or just getting away for a quiet holiday, this area really deserves some attention.
I started in Brisbane, flying to Cairns and then hiring a car to drive north. Flights from Brisbane to Cairns are about $250 return but can certainly be cheaper if you book early enough. Car hire is pretty standard around Australia, generally about $80 a day depending on what kind of car you get and how old you are...(they charge more if you are under 25)

Cooktown recommendation by kateo99
We havent started our overseas trip yet but have spent the last 2 years living in Cairns. If you are ever in this part of the world I would definitly reccommend visiting Cooktown - about 2 hours north of Cairns. The town itself is really small but absolutely gorgeous and so much history! Reccommend eating at Shadows restaurant on the way out of town. The food is amazing - definitly the best you will find in... read the full recommendation

Palm Cove recommendation by aflewis
After a clinically depressing Winter in Wellington is 2006, Ann and I decided we would get away this year to some heat. We used all our airpoints and managed to get flights from Wellington through to Cairns return for NZD300 each. We flew Qantas- Wellington/Auckland/Sydney/Cairns. The return was via Melbourne.
On arrival in Cairns we met 24degC and sunshine. We hired a Herz for around AUD45 per day (8 days) and drove 20 mins to Palm Cove. This is located on the beach midway between Cairns and Port Douglas. We had booked to stay in the... read the full recommendation

Cape York recommendation by TheQuantrills
If you are touring Queensland you cannot miss a trip to Cape york, the tip of Queensland. Some must haves prior to starting the trip is of course a 4 wheel drive, as the roads are dirt and require a tougher vehicle, you will also need plenty of drinking water and food as there is a small supermarket right at the top , but fresh fruit and veg is not always available, you will also need insect spray and of course sun screen, and all the camping gear you think you may need for a few nights camping.
You take the Peninsula development Road until you get to Bramwell Junction, this can take a few days, there... read the full recommendation

Port Douglas recommendation by johnshell
Port Douglas is a beautiful spot to just spend days on end in Far North Queensland soaking up the rays. We visited in May and the temperature never dropped below 20 deg. During the day the temps were around 28 - 29 deg.
If you after a place to spoil yourself, stay at the Meridian Apartments. We hired a 1 bedroom apartment for $240/night in which we could cook some meals to save on the expense of some restaurants and make our own breakfast.
I wouldn't call Port Douglas a cheap location (in fact it can be quite exe), but if you are after somewhere cheap to stay, neighbouring Cairns (60km away)... read the full recommendation
